Note from Planetarium Staff

We received a very nice note from the docents who brought the Portable Universe to us this week. This note was sent after the first visits on Tuesday with the PreK3-2nd. Some interesting websites are recommended for the students.

Hi Mrs. Carruth,
Thank you for booking the Portable Planetarium for St. Luke's Catholic School on Tuesday Feb. 7th. Ian and I thoroughly enjoyed teaching the Portable Planetarium Program to your PreK, 1st and 2nd graders. Your students were highly knowledgeable in astronomy and were very enthusiastic to learn more about space science. We could tell the younger students enjoyed our new One World One Sky Sesame Street Space Film and were very excited to be singing along and learning with Big Bird and his friends!
Several of your 1st/2nd grade students took a sincere interest in exploring and learning about the deep space objects especially galaxies and black holes. I was extremely surprised when one of your students mentioned the gravitational constant of 9.8!
We hope your students enjoyed the program and there are several valuable resources available to you and your students to provide further enrichment both inside and outside of the classroom. The software that we used during our programs is called Night Shade and can be downloaded for free at

Additionally, Galaxy Zoo is an excellent website where students can help astronomers explore the Universe and classify space objects.
We hope the students enjoyed the program and we look forward to visiting your school again!

-Ian & Sara
