Math Investigations

In our math program, after every 10 lessons, the children get to explore a particular math concept in a special way. Today the 4th graders were investigating measuring length and perimeter. After measuring off a meter, they walked around the perimeter of the room using giant meter size steps.

The 3rd graders were practicing regrouping using play money. Working in partners, they had to exchange money. They soon discovered that a trip to the "bank" was sometimes necessary.

Science Project

The students are very excited about their first project. Guidelines went home today and they can also be found under the project tab at the top of this page. On the right you will find websites for ideas and help. Note: the project needs to be done by the student with adult guidance and it should be done with household materials (and yes, Legos are okay!) It should not be a purchased kit. The project does not have to be elaborate. For the 3rd graders, it can be as simple as a ramp constructed by the child out of building blocks, cardboard, or wood with an object to roll up or down or a lever lifting an object. For the 4th graders (or 3rd graders who wish to), put two simple machines together to move an object.

THANK YOU!!!!

A huge thank you to the Gasca family! Mr. Gasca, with his helpful assistant, Carlos, replaced the hooks in the closet. This morning, the children came in and found there was a functioning hook for each of them. Now we have enough places for all of the backpacks, lunch boxes, shoe bags...etc. Thank you again for your help!
