Math

On the right side of the blog, you can find links for multiplication practice, including some on squares and square roots. Fourth graders need to start practicing the multiplication tables nightly. Third graders who want to get a head start can use the sites also.

Third graders are concentrating on measuring to the nearest half inch and telling time to the minute. There are links for these also.

The test scores showed a need to focus on math computation. As I am sure you have noticed, the students are correcting anything they miss. I have already seen a decrease in wrong answers and an increase in students asking for assistance. Precision and careful attention to what is being asked are essential parts of a strong foundation for future mathematical success.

ITBS Test Results

Test results went home today in the Wednesday folders. This report contains a great deal of information about your child's academic strengths and weaknesses and learning style. If you have any questions or want a consultation about your child's scores, please contact me by email with your questions or to set up a conference to discuss the results.

Here are some websites that contain information about the tests:

Thanksgiving Luncheon

Next Wednesday, November 16th, we will celebrate one of our favorite St. Luke's traditions. A Thanksgiving Luncheon will be served for the students and family members. The reservation forms went home today with the oldest and only. Please return these by Friday. Let me know if you need another form.
Third and Fourth Grade will eat lunch at 11:30. Families with several children can all eat together at the lunch time of the youngest child. (PK3-K 11:00, 1st-5th 11:30, Jr. High 12:25).
There will be no regular Cafeteria service that day. Children who do not pre-order the Thanksgiving luncheon must bring lunch from home.

Spelling Bee

This year, the third graders will be participating in the Spelling Bee along with the 4th-8th graders. The St. Luke Bee will be December 13th. The winner and an alternate will then go on to the Diocesan Bee. We were thrilled last year when a fourth grader was the alternate. To prepare for the Bee, the spelling lists from now until then will be pulled from the official Spelling Bee lists. At the right are links to help students study.
