Fire Safety Visit
Did your child mention the visit from the Irving Fire Department today? They came to speak to the 3rd and 4th graders about Fire Safety, especially about making a plan with your family and having home fire drills. To emphasize the importance of this, I shared a story with the students. Over 15 years ago, we had a similar fire safety visit. We sent home materials to help make a home fire escape plan. One family not only made a plan, but the little girl also brought it to show her kindergarten teacher. A month later, her house caught fire at night and the family of five all made it out safely!
The firemen also reminded the students about checking the batteries in the smoke alarm twice a year. And one of our students was asked to demonstrate Stop, Drop and Roll.

ITBS Testing This Week
Standardized testing begins first thing Monday morning. The purpose of the testing is to allow the teachers to know how best to plan instruction to meet the needs of the students. The students have one homework assignment this week: get plenty of sleep, eat a good breakfast, and be on time. Please encourage your child to approach the testing as a chance to show how much he or she has learned.
